Gary 'Smiler' Turner
Personal Training
Hi, and thanks for taking a look at my Personal Training section.
I carry out between 18 and 22 Personal Training sessions each week, and any free slots are hastily booked up. This is because I give my all to my client. I do my best to ensure that each and every client is treated as though they are the only client of the day.
I have a lifetime’s study and experience of top level competitive sport. Combine this with my psychological skills training and I am well placed to offer you some unique training. I train you hard, and I train you clever. I train your body, your technical ability, and your mind – all in a fun and entertaining way. I work to fast-track you to where you want to be.
I am experienced at working with all ages and ability, from Joe Public looking to get fit, all the way through to the highest level of competitive sportsperson. I welcome working with clients that other trainers may consider difficult. If you are in a wheelchair, or have a youngster, or have a disability, I can accommodate.
My expert fields within Personal Training are:
• Fight Sports from technique, application of technique, sparring, and conditioning
• Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), K-1, Kickboxing, Judo, gi and no-gi Grappling
• Fat loss and weight loss
I operate from my fully matted, warm and functional facility in Church Crookham, Hampshire.
Should you want to book in, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Slots available without being booked by my long term clients are usually advertised on my Facebook page on a Sunday or Monday for that week. I look forward to seeing you!

“Having been in and out of various styles of martial arts/kickboxing/boxing over the past 16 years, I have come across a whole host of instructors/trainers....from your stereotypical psychopath to your out-of-shape (delusional) novice attempting to pass off as a credible mentor who never seems to practice what they preach. Over time, my faith in finding a decent trainer had eventually deteriorated and I had resided to the fact that the gym was my only way forward to get back into shape.
A few months back a friend suggested joining him at a session with Gary. My expectations were of yet another self obsessed, arrogant 'kickboxing' instructor. Wow! How wrong was I?!
From day one I have found Gary to be a completely different league to your typical ‘kickboxing instructor’ and I consider him to be up there with the best trainers I have had the privilege to train under. Considering his achievements in the ring throughout the world, you don’t get any superiority complexes with Gary. He is approachable and has a great ability to work with students at all levels. Often, you will find skilled fighters/martial artists are great at what they do, but when it comes to teaching, they lack those interpersonal skills which Gary naturally has. No matter what level you are, I have noticed that Gary can clearly explain what and why you are doing what he is teaching you. And the great thing is that everything is proven and he has great examples of application at some point during his career. And Gary’s skills don’t just stop at the kickboxing which I had initially boxed him into. I have learnt a huge amount around diet, weight loss, fat loss (yes, they are different!), fitness and even some great tips from his hypnotherapy and NLP experience which have been so handy at work!
Personal Training sessions are built around my individual ability, not only working on my weaknesses to rectify, but also adding yet more techniques and movements to my tool kit. In addition, all of this has been worked around an old Achilles tendon repair with careful attention at building the supporting muscles around my tendon. I can honestly say that I would not have made the progress I would have made without Gary’s advice.
And finally, I guarantee that any session you have with Gary will have you in stitches......and I don’t mean that sharp pain in your abdomen....I mean stitches of laughter! Every session comes with a free dose of humour which helps so much when he finishes you off with some ‘blue bag therapy’. If you don’t know what I’m referring to.......you will ;o)”

"I have had many trainers in the past 3 years but I really can’t think of one who has such a comprehensive range of fighting skills than Gary. I have not had 1 session yet where I thought it was a waste of time. From Thai/kick boxing styles, to grappling, Gary provides the complete package.
He breaks things down to such a technical level, and pushes you very hard, but at the same time makes it very rewarding and enjoyable.
But what really strikes me is that Gary has achieved so much in his fighting career, he doesn’t seem to carry any ego or arrogance, which is all too common in a lot of fighters of this stature. It is an honour to be trained by a guy who has fought with some of the toughest fighters in the world!
Moreover he is the most down to earth person I have ever met with a great sense of humour. He is a truly likable chap which makes the whole learning experience even more fun.
Nice one Gary and keep up the fantastic work!"

“I have been training with Gary for several weeks now and have learnt so much already. I have only been exercising for 8 months after having my daughter 3yrs ago but I wasn’t seeing results so on my brothers recommendation I took action and went to see Gary I’m so glad I did, in just a few weeks I am already seeing results and feeling focused and determined. The sessions I have with Gary are always varied and very interesting though I often wonder what he will have me doing next! Somehow Gary manages to make the session really good fun whilst working me really hard. Gary has given me much of advice on training I can keep up at the gym in between sessions and also dietary and nutrition advice. I would recommend anyone that’s thinking of taking the step to do it I feel so much better and that’s thanks to Gary."
